Overview

Working in the fields of film, TV or video games as an animator, you’ll create different images—or frames—which give the illusion of movement when displayed in a quick sequence. Big-name animated movies like Minions, Frozen, or The Lion King take years to make. Hundreds, if not thousands, of animators are needed to bring each character to life; that’s why the end credits are so long!

Labor Market Information

All those game apps on your cell phone? They, along with an increased demand for animators in the movie and TV business, are driving a 4 percent growth in the field by 2028. Animators make $56K per year on average in the DC metro area. Entry level jobs require a bachelor’s degree. And there are 64 job openings annually in the DC metro area. Overview

Using a variety of cool techniques like jump, L, and/or J cuts, film and video editors edit moving images on film, video and other media. They may also match up soundtracks to the images you see on your screen. And, even though your favorite movie or TV show lasts an hour or so, they are the result of the film and video editor’s detailed attention to hours and hours of film that’s boiled down to the finished product that you see.

As demand for more TV and movie programs grows, aspiring film and video editors can expect 11 percent growth in the field by 2028. make $45K per year on average in the DC metro area. Overview

Graphic designers create visual concepts that are memorable, using computer software or by hand, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform and captivate different audiences. They develop the overall layout and production design for ads, brochures, magazines and reports.

Labor Market Information

The rate of increase in graphic design jobs is growing at 3 percent by 2028, just a bit slower than other fields. In certain industries, however, your career path may lead from graphic designer to creative director, where you can manage an entire project from start to finish.
